  • Students from Engineering, Business, Law, and other science areas.
  • Cover technical basics of medical product design with inclusion of basic business concepts -- little tradition homework -- mostly projects
  • Students from different disciplines form teams of mock start-up companies
    • Products for development in the mock start-up companies are faculty inventions
    • Close connection with KU Tech Transfer Office and faculty inventors
  • Mock start-up company team deliverables: Mock SBIR Fast Track (Phase I + Phase II) proposal including:
    • Technical analysis of invention
    • Business/marketing analysis of invention including a startup company business plan
    • Intellectual property concerns
    • Budge for developing the product
  • Benefits to the students:
    • Engineers/Scientists learn about the business/legal side
    • Business majors and law students learn about each other and the technical side
    • All students earn an appreciation of each others skills and approaches to problems
